After Hours — Classic Rascal Behavior
I know about the look.
You think I don't but I do. I've been in the room every time it happens. Someone — and we all know who — gets that specific expression. Equal parts mischief and inevitability. And then comes the question that has ended more reasonable evenings than anyone will ever admit out loud.
What shall we do next?
And just like that. The night changes.
I watched it start the way it always starts — a dinner. A patio somewhere, or a reservation (somewhere good- duh), the kind of place where everyone orders one more round before the check comes because nobody's ready. I watched you slither — there is no other word for it — from the restaurant to that bar you can walk to.
The one that always seems like a reasonable idea at 9pm.
I've seen this crew before. I know exactly who everyone is.
I know about Chris. The one who frames the bad idea so reasonably that by the time anyone realizes what's happening they've already said yes and are genuinely excited about it. The master of mischief. Completely unrepentant.
I know about Frankie. Loud in the best way. The kind of loud that makes a room feel full even when it isn't. The laugh you can hear from the other side of wherever you are.
I know about Vinny. Always down. Always spicy. Arrives ready and leaves last. The one who can turn one drink into a full itinerary and somehow make everyone grateful for it. Zero regrets about any of it.
I know about Yeti. Came in from Tennessee. Never comes to just chill — and everyone knows it, including her. Sweet. Genuinely sweet. Until approximately the third drink when the responsible one decides responsibility is overrated for the evening.
I know about Meredith. The mom. The witty one. The smartass. The one who identifies as a raccoon and honestly — correct. Arrives composed. Flirts with chaos. By the end of the night has said something so funny that someone is crying and nobody can explain it to an outsider.
And then there's Linsay.
The one who doesn't let anyone leave. The one for whom just one more is less a suggestion and more a personal philosophy. The one who started this whole thing.
I've watched the night reach that specific fever pitch — the one where ending it feels genuinely criminal. Where the music gets dancier without anyone asking. Where the camaraderie gets louder and something real gets said in between the laughing and nobody acknowledges it directly but everyone heard it and it mattered.
The kind of warmth that has seen everyone at their worst and showed up anyway.
If these walls could talk.
They won't. Obviously.
So tell me — who is your crew? Who gets the look? Who sells everyone on the bad idea? And what was the last night that ended later than it should have and you are not even a little sorry?
Classic rascal behavior.
