The Good Part

I've been burning on the kitchen counter all weekend.

I watched the golf carts go by. I heard the parade from the porch. I felt the whole town decide — without anyone announcing it — that this weekend belongs to everyone.

I've seen the way you move through a July 4th weekend. House to house. Neighbor to neighbor. The way you feel like you know every single person who lives there and maybe you do. The little parties that spill into each other. Nobody has anywhere to be. Nobody is performing.

I watched the fireworks light up the sky for three nights running. I watched the frenchies absolutely lose their entire minds and then somehow, eventually, collapse into sleep.

Worth it. Obviously.

And then Monday came. The town went quiet. You went back to your regular life — exhausted, heart full, already wishing you could do it all over again.

That's SILK CANAL. Not the grand gesture. The accumulated weight of ordinary days that turn out to be everything.

So tell me — what made that weekend good without being special? Who were you with when it felt the most like home? And what would you do differently if you could live July 4th weekend once a month?

Nothing to prove. Nothing to rush. The performance is over. This is the good part.
